In a world where we have to keep ourselves safe from more and more dangers surrounding us, protective clothing has become more popular than ever. However, now it's time to start protecting the planet that we live in. For years we have taken the planet for granted but if nothing changes soon, there won't be a future world.
“DON’T TRASH IT”, is a SS 21 collection designed to bring awareness that protecting the world is such a vital factor for our future. Solely we are focused on keeping safe as individuals but the world needs our help and our attitude to climate change needs to alter. The collection will be a mixture of summer pieces with layered padded sections. The layered padding is a response to always protecting ourselves.
The collection is inspired by protection we take for granted in our everyday lives and contrasting this with the devastating effects climate change is having on our world.
On top of the climate impact, clothes production leads to depletion of water resources and local microfibre pollution. To combat these effects, parts of the fashion industry are rethinking many of the ways in which they operate. These include choice of materials, use of chemicals, overconsumption of water, freight, overproduction and waste management. With this being said the ambition for the collection will be to produce garments from reused/ remnant/ damaged fabrics, sourced through ebay, charity shops, donations, remnant retail/online shops.
Within the collection expect to see influences from protective wear through sportswear, historic and modern uniforms, armour and body protection. Using elements from the construction, silhouette and fastenings that enforce protection.
The target market for this collection will be 20- 30 year olds that are fashion conscious and thinking about the impacts of fashion, they love to rave, be bold in the statement pieces they invest in, always looking for excellent quality that will last for years to come.
