OpPulence

My concept will explore the idea of British colonization in Africa between the period of 1870-1900 drawing on the power they had on Kenya for their valuable resources such as: the gold, ivory, and pearls, Fighting for leverage amongst them. I will merge the beauty and elegance of Queen Elizabeth the 1st powered with bushel of pearls and jewels.

I will be focusing on creating a range of evening dresses accompanied with accessories to compliment and elevate the looks individually creating beauty, elegance and glamour. I will explore the idea of bows and volume within my collection. The references for my silhoutues will come from period dresses between 1870s-1900s alongside looking at collections from couture designers YSL and Christian Dior. My muse is a free spirit not interested in replicating looks, rather willing to experiment with her style through her appearance. Aimed at 25-40 year olds, the collection aims to compete with luxury ready to wear brands such as: Richard Quinn, and Simone Rocha in terms of my market-level.

I will be focusing on creating a SS21 collection which consist bold prints and. The colour palette will be informed by the cultural influence from Morocco from the spice markets to the vibrant streets creating a bold and complimentary palette. I will create print motifs from the street walls of Marrakech and the Moroccan mosaic tile walls, creating a combination of bold clashing motifs that montage into repeat patterns.

Overall, the collection captures how beauty and glamour transcends through the lenses of cultural and historical references.
